Dear Areteem teachers, Could someone please explain the posted solution for the problem on Feb. 22, 2018? I have a different answer. Thank you so much!

Hello Maddy! The way the problem was worded lead to different answers so it was updated. All students that had submitted an answer to the problem were awarded the points.

Thank you, Mr. Reynoso, for your reply. I didn't misunderstand the original problem. The previous posted solution (see the screenshot I attach here) says 'Notice the "sculpture" is made of exactly 4 of these corner pieces'. I think it should be 8, which leads me to a different answer. Thank you again for your time to look into this.

Hi Maddy. We made a drawing of the problem using Geogebra. You can find it here. If you rotate the figure you can notice how the spheres touch the cube in $2$ points each, and the "plaster" around them is all connected, so it made no sense to "remove the outer edge" as the original problem asked (that would have resulted in removing ALL the plaster, so no sculpture in the end :/). The way the problem was reworded afterwards may not produce a nice sculpture, but at least has a unique answer.
